My husband, Anthony, and I got married on May 14, 2016, in St. Leonard, Maryland. Living in Washington, D.C. (where all things are crazy expensive), we decided to be more budget-friendly and venture out in the country a bit. I searched on Pinterest for “Southern Maryland Barn Weddings” and actually ended up finding our amazing venue - a state park on the Patuxent River with a gorgeous pavilion.
The inside of our venue was all wood and so naturally perfect that I wanted to keep my decor simple. We went with a lot of white and tons of greenery, with small pops of gold here and there. I love the contrast of the white lanterns against the ceiling and the lace against the tables.
One of my favorite parts of the day was our first look. Honestly, our first look and the few other times we snuck away to take photos, are some of the only moments we got to ourselves that day. When we were away from the dance floor and our guests, we really got to take a step back and enjoy each other.
One of the best perks of your wedding day is getting to spend time with friends and family. Having my bridesmaids by my side during it all - from the planning process, to the shower and bachelorette party, to actually being there to help and have fun the day of - was such an awesome experience. Since our wedding was more on the casual side, I had my girls wear knee-length dresses and told them to find something in the color mint they loved. I love all the different shades together! Everyone found a dress for under $50 and I think most of them have been able to wear it again.
It seems obvious, but the most important thing to remember is to have fun! Try not to worry about the little things. If you’ve done your due diligence and planned and brought along the right people to help, you should be able to relax, grab a drink, and have the time of your life. This is your day! No one will care if a picture frame blows over in the wind and shatters or the DJ plays 3 slow songs in a row (these things may or may not have happened to me…). Just soak up every second with your new spouse and everyone you love.
Our wedding day was hands down the best day of my life. It’s such a cool experience to see all of the planning and effort you put in come together and create the magical day you envisioned. I wish I could do it all over again!
